Valentine's Day 2006:

Carly and I had been dating for just about 4 months. Our 4 month anniversary was on February 9^th, but since it was so close to Valentine's Day, we just decided to celebrate it on the 14^th. We decided to hang out at her sister's apartment all day and watch movies since her sister wasn't home. It was cold outside anyway since it was February.

We popped some popcorn, put in a movie and snuggled together on the bed. It was perfect. We were in the middle of watching Home Alone when my phone started vibrating.

"Hey, I have to take this," I said as I got off the bed.

She paused the movie and I went into the corner to answer the phone.

"Hello?"

"Really?"

"Oh my God, that's awesome! Thank you!"

As soon as I hung up, I called Jack, Zack, and Rian to tell them the amazing news. Then I ran over to the bed and started jumping up and down on it.

"Why are you so hyper all of the sudden?" Carly asked, seeming irritated.

"You would be too if your band just got signed to HOPELESS RECORDS!"

"Really? Awesome!" she said as she gave me a hug. She didn't seem too excited, but I didn't really worry about it. I was too caught up in the moment. "Oh my fuck, this is huge!"

"I know you're excited, but I wanted to finish watching the movie. So, can we?"

"Of course," I said smiling.

We watched a few more movies and I looked at the clock. It was already 5:00.

"Carly, you need to go get ready. I have some plans for us," I said with a smirk.

"Oh, you do? Like what?"

"I can't tell you. But wear something nice," I said. I gave her a kiss on the cheek and said, "I'll be back around 6:30."

I kept to my word and showed up at her door at exactly 6:30. I rang the doorbell and when she answered it, I was speechless. She looked absolutely stunning. Her hair was in soft curls and she wore a black strapless dress that went down to right above her knees, and heels that made her legs look amazing.

"Wow," was all I could manage to say.

"Thanks," she said as she smiled, knowing that I thought she looked beautiful even though I didn't say it.

We went to the car and I opened her door for her. "After you, my lady." She laughed at me as I closed the door after her. I went to the driver's side and got in. We had been driving for a few minutes and it was silent. Not an awkward silence, there just wasn't anything that neither of us had to say. I knew this night would be perfect. I grabbed her hand in mine and she smiled. When we arrived at the restaurant, I parked and took her inside. It was a formal restaurant and I knew that it would be expensive, but I didn't mind.

We had a lovely dinner and after we ate, Carly said, "Thank you, I had a wonderful time. You're amazing." She kissed me.

"Well, good because I have another surprise for you."

"Another surprise! Alex, come on, you must've spent a fortune for that dinner. Seriously, you don't have to anything else for me."

"But I want to."

She didn't object, so we walked along the pier and down to the beach. I didn't even care that it was the middle of February. I had a blanket set up on the beach with a basket. We didn't order dessert at the restaurant because I wanted to have it on the beach. There was something else in the box, but that was a surprise.

I took her over to where the blanket was and she immediately lay down and looked up at the stars. There weren't many lights around so it seemed like you could reach up and touch every star.

"Wow, Alex, this is beautiful."

"I couldn't agree more," I said. But I wasn't looking at the stars.

I picked up the basket and pulled out rainbow cake, her favorite dessert. I gave her a piece on a plate and a fork. She smiled and said, "This is so cute. Why would go to all this trouble for me?"

Perfect. Right after she said that, I reached into the basket and pulled out a box.

"Carly," I said as I took the necklace out of the box.

"I want you to know that I've never felt the same way about a girl as I feel about you." As I spoke I went behind her and clipped the heart shaped necklace on. "I love you, and I promise you that I'll never stop."

She looked down at the necklace and I saw tears forming in her eyes. She embraced me in a warm hug and held me there. I could feel that she was crying, but I knew they were happy tears. She pulled away and I said, "Look at the back." On the back, I had the words engraved, "Forever and always. Love, AWG."

"Alex," she said sniffling "I love you too..."

I knew there was something else to it, so i said,"But...?"

"What's going to happen between us?"

"What do you mean?"

"Your band just got signed, which means you'll be going on a lot more tours."

"Yeah, I know that, but I can still see you when I come home and I'll call you all the time."

"Alex, it's not like that. I'm going to be moving to California. I got accepted to UCLA. I can't just give up my future."

What she said hit me with a ton of bricks. I can't believe she didn't tell me sooner.

"When were you going to tell me that?"

"I just got the acceptance letter a few days ago. I was waiting for a good time. I'm really sorry."

"It's okay. I'm really happy for you, you know that right? And I'm not going to keep you away from the life you want to live. Wherever you are, I'll find a way to be with you. But for now, we're both here, and we still have until the end of the summer to figure out what's going to happen. I promise you that we'll be together no matter where life takes us."

Even though I said that, I didn't really believe it. Something in my mind told me that it was complete bullshit. I just hoped it wasn't.

So, as all of you know, Kevin in this story is really Alex. He's just using a fake name, and there's a reason for that. But I don't like using a name other than Alex. I don't know, it's just starting to bug me. So, I'm gonna make his name Alex, but just remember that it's still supposed to be a fake name. Carly is still a fake name because the girl's real name is Jasey Rae. Does that make sense? I hope so. You'll understand why he uses fake names to tell the story at the end. Using the name Alex isn't gonna make the end as dramatic as I would've liked, but whatever, just pretend that the girl listening to the story thinks his name is Kevin. That probably makes absolutely no sense, but trust me, it will in the end.
